Smart Cooling System for Dairy Farms

The key words for us are simplicity, efficiency and a user-friendly interface.

The system is based on a smart monitoring algorithm that uses artificial intelligence and camera-based innovation. It continuously monitors the location and movement of cows and adjusts cooling parameters in real time, so that cows enjoy optimal conditions and yields are maintained at the highest level. Image analysis is performed using cameras that capture the floor in real time and provide accurate and up-to-date information.

When cows are detected in the designated areas, the system operates automatically: it activates the sprinklers to increase cooling, and adjusts the fan speeds to optimize airflow and reduce heat load. When the controlled areas are empty, the fans and sprinklers remain off or idle, depending on the user’s preferences. The system continuously monitors the Temperature-Humidity Index (THI) and calibrates the cooling responses: the higher the THI values, the higher the fan speeds and the longer the sprinkler operation times.

Full Control
The dairy farmer enjoys full control over adapting the system to designated cooling zones – from defining target areas for interventions to determining the minimum number of cows required to operate the sprinklers.

Response Timing
The system defines the length of time that cows must stay in the defined area before the cooling operation begins, allowing for more customized and efficient cooling.

Data Collection and Insights (in development)
The system records and analyzes cow occupancy trends in different regions, providing valuable data to improve long-term barn management and efficiency.
It continuously monitors system components – cameras, Modbus relays and sensors – and sends automatic failure alerts via email or SMS.

Reliability and Continuous Operation
The system includes built-in safeguards to ensure continued cooling of cows even in the event of a fault. In addition, it allows the dairy farmer to override the automation at any time and switch to manual mode, for continuous operation without interruption.

User-Friendly Controller
The intuitive controller provides real-time insights and displays essential information for optimal cooling management in the barn, including:

Real-time cow occupancy data and length of stay in each area.
Sprinkler activity status (active / standby / off).
Current fan speeds.

Dashboard Display
A clear graphical interface allows control of the soaking system in real time, along with automatic adjustment of fan speed. Adjustments are made according to the number of cows in the area within the zone of each fan, taking into account the fans size and speed, to ensure optimal conditions at all times.
